Engineering Support Personnel, Inc. (ESP) is currently seeking a full time
Navigation, Seamanship and Shiphandling Instructor for the Surface Warfare Officers School
Command at NS Newport, RI.
Primary duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Provide classroom and laboratory instruction in NSS subject areas based on SWOS provided curriculum and in
accordance with the Navigation, Seamanship and Shiphandling Training Requirements Document.
Operate NSS simulators and other computer based training systems in support of conducting NSS exercises.
Provide pre and post exercise briefing instruction to SWOS students.
Provide for the assessment of SWOS students, record keeping, and reporting in accordance with SWOS and NSS
TRD requirements.
Maintain SWOS provided curriculum and make recommendations to SWOS when modifications to the curriculum are deemed
necessary to enhance learning, based on maritime education and training best practices or to meet updated SWOS,
NSS TRD, Surface Navy, NAVDORM, or requirements from other competent authority.
Maintain highest levels of expertise in NSS subject areas, NSS TRD, NAVDORM, standard Navy conning commands,
current maritime education and training best practices, U.S. Navy Surface Ship particulars and maneuvering
characteristics for all ship classes, and other areas as appropriate.
Job Requirements:
Former qualified Navy Surface Warfare Officer (LT or LCDR) with at least 3 years sea service OR a U.S. Coast Guard
(USCG) license as 2nd or 1st Mate; AND
Have received appropriate guidance in instructional techniques and competency assessment methods and practice
involving the use of simulators.
Possess the required knowledge, skills and abilities to conduct training and assessment using a full mission or part task bridge simulator.
Demonstrated expert level knowledge and understanding of NSS subject matter, NSS TRD, current version of the
Surface Ship Navigation Department Organization and Regulations Manual (NAVDORM), standard Navy conning commands,
maritime education and training best practices, U.S. Navy Surface Ship maneuvering characteristics for all ship
classes.
Currently possess or the ability to possess a SECRET clearance.
